INSIGHTS / SECURITY AND HTTPS

Why Does a Website Still Show “Not Secure” After Installing SSL?

Certificate installation is only one step. Browser warnings may persist because of hostname mismatches, mixed content or expired certificates.

Certificate installation is only one step. Browser warnings may persist because of hostname mismatches, mixed content or expired certificates.

Start with certificate identity and dates

Check that the certificate covers the exact hostname, including www or subdomains where applicable. Validate the certificate chain and expiration.

A certificate for a different hostname is not fixed by simply enabling a forced HTTPS redirect.

Find mixed content and redirects

An HTTPS page that loads images, scripts or styles over HTTP may trigger browser warnings or blocked resources. Review templates, databases and hard-coded URLs.

Use a clean redirect from HTTP to HTTPS and avoid unnecessary redirect chains.

Automate the future

Choose a trusted renewal process with monitoring. Certificate renewal can fail because of DNS, validation or server changes.

Orchidz’s SSL conversations focus on deployment checks and continued certificate lifecycle management, not a one-time upload.

Practical decision checklist

  • Check exact hostnames and validity
  • Inspect mixed-content warnings
  • Verify redirect behavior
  • Test and monitor renewal
